Usui Reiki Level 1 Course – Johannesburg & Online

My Usui Reiki Level 1 course is taught over four live classes, either in person in Sunninghill, Johannesburg or online.
Alongside learning the traditional foundations of Reiki, you'll have time to practise, integrate your experiences and begin developing trust in the way you intuitively sense and work with energy.
Whether you're drawn to Reiki for your own healing and personal development, would like to use Reiki with friends and family, or feel that this may be the beginning of a path towards becoming a Reiki practitioner, Level 1 is where that journey begins.

Is Reiki Level 1 right for you?
You don't need any previous experience with Reiki, energy healing or intuitive work to join Reiki Level 1.
You may simply feel drawn to Reiki and want to understand it better. You may be looking for a healing and self-development tool for yourself. Or you may already know that you'd eventually like to work with Reiki professionally and are looking for the right place to begin.
During the course, you'll receive your First Degree Reiki attunement, enabling you to become a channel for Reiki energy.
After completing Level 1, you'll be able to use Reiki for your own healing and personal development, as well as offer Reiki to friends and family. If you'd eventually like to practise Reiki professionally and charge for treatments, Reiki Level 2 is the next step in your training.
Learning Reiki is only part of the journey
I deliberately teach Reiki Level 1 over four classes, rather than trying to fit everything into a single weekend.
For me, learning Reiki isn't only about learning where to put your hands or understanding the theory. It's also about what begins to happen within you as you start working with energy.
Reiki can bring up different experiences for different people. You may notice changes in how you feel, become more aware of your intuition, have questions about something you've experienced, or find that feelings, fears or doubts arise as you begin exploring this part of yourself.
We make space for that.
At the beginning of each class, we talk about everyone's integration process and what has happened since we last met. If something has come up for you, we can explore it together rather than leaving you wondering whether you're "doing it right."
We also practise together throughout the course. I truly believe that the best way to learn any skill—especially when we're developing our spiritual abilities—is through practice. This is how we begin learning to trust ourselves and the information we personally see, sense and feel.
My aim is that you leave understanding Reiki, but also understanding yourself a little better and trusting your own intuition more than you did when you arrived.

Why is Reiki Level 1 taught over 4 weeks?
The time between the classes is an important part of the course.
After each class, you'll have an opportunity to practise what you've learned, observe your own experiences and notice anything that may be changing or coming up for you.
When we meet again, we can talk about those experiences together before moving forward.
It means you aren't expected to absorb everything over one intensive weekend and then go home and figure out the integration process by yourself.
Instead, we:

And then we continue from there.
Attend Reiki Level 1 in Johannesburg or online
Can I learn Reiki 1 online?
Yes.
You can join the course live online rather than attending in person in Johannesburg.
Within Reiki, we understand that energy isn't restricted by physical distance, time or space. I work with Reiki remotely within my own practice, and distance healing becomes an important part of your Reiki training as you progress into Reiki Level 2.
If you're attending online, we'll simply set you up via computer so that you can participate in the teaching, discussions and practical exercises with the rest of the group. Your Reiki attunement can also be done remotely.
So you don't need to live in Johannesburg—or even be in South Africa—to learn Reiki with me.
The important part for me is that you're still participating live. You're part of the group, you're able to ask questions and share what you're experiencing, and you're part of the integration discussions throughout the course.
What can I do after Reiki Level 1
After completing Reiki Level 1, you'll be able to use Reiki for your own healing and personal development, as well as offering Reiki to friends and family.
You'll also leave with a foundation in working with energy, the aura and chakras; practical experience giving Reiki; and, hopefully, a greater understanding of how you personally sense and interpret energy.
You'll receive your Reiki Level 1 certificate after completing the course.
If you would eventually like to establish a professional Reiki practice and charge for treatments, you'll need to continue your training through Reiki Level 2.
Meet your Reiki Master Teacher
Hi, I'm Tanya...
I'm Tanya Parsons, founder of Awakened Transcendence Healing and a Usui Reiki Master Teacher.
My approach to teaching Reiki is grounded in the belief that there isn't one "right" way to experience energy.
Some people see. Some sense. Some feel. Some simply know. And sometimes you may not experience what you expected to experience at all.
I don't believe my role is to tell you what you should be experiencing.
My role is to teach you the foundations, give you opportunities to practise and guide you to recognise and trust your own way of working with Reiki and your intuition.
For me, Reiki isn't simply another healing technique to learn. It can become a way of understanding yourself differently, becoming more aware of your own energy and beginning to recognise what your intuition has been communicating to you all along.

Next Reiki Level 1 Course
Planning for early 2027
The next Reiki Level 1 course is planned for early 2027, with potential start dates from the end of January through to March.
I haven't set the exact dates yet because I'd like to take the availability of those who are interested into consideration before finalising the next group.
If there is enough interest in starting sooner, I am also happy to put together an earlier weekday course. So if you've been thinking about learning Reiki, please don't wait for dates to be advertised before getting in touch. I believe things have a way of coming together at the right time, and sometimes the interest itself is what brings the next group together.

Why 4–5 classes?
The course follows a structured syllabus, but I also allow space for questions, discussion, practical work and whatever comes up for the group. Some groups naturally need a little more time than others, so the course will run over four or five sessions depending on the level of participation and how the course unfolds.
